Your lifestyle may not be causing your acne problems but the way you live does affect your whole body including the skin which is the largest organ. The hours you keep, the place you work and the ways you play, especially for those prone to acne, can have a toll on the epidermis.There are a few acne triggers that occur everyday which should be avoided.
On the job comedones. Some parts of your skin is constantly in contact with your environment and paying attention to the substances you are in contact with on a regular basis is important. You may, without knowing it, be exposing yourself to pore clogging comedogenic substances on the job. These substances may not be causing the acne but are aggravating it. As an example, fast-food restaurant’s airborne grease can clog your pores by creating an invisible film on your skin. Most of the industrial oils used in factories, cars and on bicycles are comedogenic in nature as well.
Getting enough sleep is good for your skin. At least eight hours of a good night’s sleep can benefit your skin. A body that is healthy and well rested is able to build a strong immune system. Although a strong immune system may not prevent acne altogether, it can clear up the lesions more quickly by fighting infections. Keeping a regular sleep schedule is also important.
Sun exposure, in small amounts, may improve acne initially but this benefit is only temporary. Sun bathing consistently drys the skin, causing more oil to be produced by the sebaceous glands. Slough old cells occur more frequently on skin that has been exposed to the sun, which combined with the extra oil and extra dead cells creates blocked pores and an ideal environment for comedones. So if working or playing in the sun, use sunscreen to protect your skin. Look for oil-free skin products providing SPF 15 level of protection from UVA and UVB rays
The connection of stress for acne has a huge impact in what it does to the skin. The emotional anxiety from a number of factors in your daily life can affect your face. When becoming tense, the adrenal glands work more by flooding the hormone cortisol into the bloodstream. The sweat glands in your face are then triggered to produce more oil. With the sebaceous glands stimulated, there is a higher chance of your pores getting clogged trapping bacteria inside when excess oil mixes with dead skin cells.
You cannot eliminate stress from your life but you can minimize it from doing damage by leading a healthy lifestyle. By having enough hours of sleep, at least 7 hours, and a balanced diet will help to build a physical foundation that is stronger. You are less likely to feel stressed by daily events when you are well rested and well fed. Getting some exercise every day even a lunchtime walk around the block can be beneficial. Also taking the time daily to relax whether it’s taking a bath, reading a book or practicing yoga, or whatever that will make you feel calm and happy. These steps can lead to overall good health for your body, including your skin.
